Oxid Vernis
Oxid Vernis is a single pack clear varnish, for use on new or oxidised metals
- Decorates, Protects, Weatherproofs – High UV resistance
- Long lasting and with high resistance – Optimal protection in harsh climates
- Ideal for highly humid interior environments
- Expands and contracts with the structure – no peeling
- Maintains the natural appearance of the substrate.
Oxid Vernis is a single pack clear varnish, enriched with polyurethane-modified alkyd resins for use on new or oxidised metals that have previously been treated with Owatrol Oil and where the natural look of the surface is to be maintained. Combining performance with ease of application, Oxid Vernis is long-lasting, has high UV resistance and is especially adapted for harsh climates.
Oxid Vernis is perfect for use on interior and exterior metals such as gates, furniture, fences, ornaments etc and can be used on horizontal or vertical surfaces with ease, whilst maintaining the natural appearance of the substrate.
Ideal uses for Oxid Vernis
- Decorates, Protects, Weatherproofs – High UV resistance.
- Great for use on new or oxidised surfaces – Ferrous and non-ferrous metals.
- Ideal for highly humid interior environments.
- Expands and contracts with the structure – No peeling.
Surface Preparation
Surfaces must be clean, dry and free of all grease, oil, salt and other surface contamination. Use an appropriate solvent depending on the substrate and contamination e.g. Acetone, Water etc. to clean the surface and prior to any of the following preparation processes.
Ferrous Metals (New or Rusted):
Remove all traces of mill scale, rust, rust scale and other foreign matter by blasting, grinding or mechanical abrasion.
Round off any sharp edges to allow better film build.
Remove all blast or manual preparation residue by vacuum cleaner, air blower or stiff clean brush.
If required and desired wipe over the surface with a cloth soaked in a fast flash off solvent such as Acetone (NOT White Spirit) to remove any remaining dust residue. Allow to dry.
Apply an application of Owatrol Oil and allow to dry.
Non-ferrous Metals (New or Oxidised)
Abrade surface using appropriate grade abrasive paper or a phosphoric passivating solution e.g. Owayell (See “Dilutions”).
For Aluminium surfaces ensure abrasive is compatible.
If required thoroughly dust off and wipe surface with a cloth soaked in a fast flash off solvent such as Acetone (NOT White Spirit) to remove any remaining dust residue. Allow to dry.
Apply an application of Owatrol Oil and allow to dry
Galvanised/Zinc Surfaces
Pickle the surface using a phosphoric passivating solution e.g. Owayell (See “Dilutions”).
Rinse thoroughly and allow to dry.
Apply an application of Owatrol Oil and allow to dry.
Rusted Surfaces (To maintain the rust appearance)
Remove all loose and flaking rust back to a sound surface and edge by wire brush or scraping.
Thoroughly dust off.
Apply Owatrol Oil to saturation and allow to dry.
Previously Coated Surfaces
Remove all previous coatings by suitable means -blasting, grinding, mechanical abrasion or stripping e.g. DSP 800 to restore the surface to it’s original condition.
After stripping rinse surface with Acetone or warm water to neutralise the surface.
Allow to dry.
If required abrade surface with appropriate grade abrasive.
Thoroughly dust off.
Apply Owatrol Oil to saturation and allow to dry.
Note: Where the surface is rinsed with water allow to dry 24 to 72 hours before applying Owatrol Oil.
Dilutions
1 part Owayell to 5 parts water.
Leave to work 5-10 minutes.
Rinse thoroughly and allow to dry
Application
Use as is.
Do not thin.
Stir well before and during use.
Apply 1st coat of Oxid Vernis and allow to dry 24 hours.
Sand surface with 280 grit abrasive and thoroughly dust off.
Apply 2nd coat of Oxid Vernis.
Note: Adding Owatrol Oil to Oxid Vernis, makes brushing easier and gives Oxid Vernis even greater flexibility, further reducing the risk of peeling and cracking.
Clean up
Clean all tools and equipment with White Spirits while still wet. If allowed to dry, remove with paint stripper.
Things to remember
- Cover everything you do not wish to paint.
- Apply between 5˚C and 35˚C.
- Do not apply in direct sunlight or on to hot surfaces.
- Ensure the room is well ventilated when using inside.
